The introns, or non-coding DNA segments, are equally mysterious both in Evolutionary computation and in biology, since they seem to challenge even the theory of evolution. In this paper, we present a discussion of introns from an evolutionary computation perspective, as well as their analogy with their biological counterparts. We also indicate some of their positive and negative effects, as well as some of the most promising research paths within this intriguing area.
