The present article has the purpose of presenting an information system called Information System on Volcanic Seismicity, which was developed for the CENAPRED on seismic information of Popocatépetl volcano, nevertheless it can be useful for other institutions related to the subject. The objective to present it is indeed that other institutions can use it and obtain benefit of him.The project was divided in the following stages: 1. Identification of the present problem; 2. Analysis of the present system; 3. Analysis of the SISV; 4. Design of the SISV; 5. Design of the database of the SISV; 6. Development of the SISV, and 7. Implantation.Designing an information system implies the pursuit of a methodology, in which, it must make an analysis of needs of the user, a study of the resources on which it is counted and the understanding of the process that is made, in order to understand the problematic one that originates the necessity to have an information system and to give the best possible solution her.The pursuit of the stages before mentioned allowed to obtain a product that fulfills the necessities of the user of the best possible way with the use of the resources available, this product consists of: 1. A database where all the seismic information about Popocatépetl volcano is stored on, and 2. An information system able to contact with the database, which as well allows to more quickly do a comparative analysis through multiple windows obtaining with it the immediate visualization of one or more events happened in different dates.In addition, the acquisition of additional storage medias was suggested in such a way that it supported the growth of the information stored in the data base.The system was developed with the Java language through JSP's (Java Server Pages), the database was implemented by means of Informix Dynamic Server 2000, both are stored in a server Sun Ultra 80.We hope this article is of great interest for the readers, given the thematic that includes and the impact that this one has on the population of Mexico.
