ABSTRACT

Visually impaired people’s technological appropriation and social inclusion

Esther Labrada Martínez

The visually impaired person (PcDV) is an active processor of information, which builds on the basis of their previous experience and knowledge, attitudes and beliefs that they have toward the content, media, materials and messages which they interact with. Respect to the Information and Communication Technologies, the communicative process is set in a visual environment where the person has to use adaptations allowing them to access to the computer. So the person acquires knowledge that promotes their educational and professional progress, in favor of a social transformation of the concept of social disability. This re-conceptualization study is framed in the phenomenon of appropriation of technology, particularly the computer, from the various factors proposed as part of the process: knowledge, use and content creation from a computer.
