The Symbolism of the sea shells among the mayas

For its characteristics and natural qualities, beauty, size, hardness and variety of color; as well as for the different habitats in which they are, both aquatic and terrestrial, the use that the shells have had has been wide. One of these uses, and maybe one of most spread and studied, has been the ornamental one. Nevertheless, the symbolic characteristics associated with these materials are great and important. In this work there will be approached some of the symbolic representations that this element had inside the Maya culture and it’s strong entail with the religion.
