ABSTRACT

All UNAM Online

Marcela J. Peñaloza Báez

Providing high quality content in online resources to members of the higher education system, and to anyone who desires to access them, is a key to the social mission of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. "All UNAM Online" is the Program that was formalized in 2011, that aims to make all of the University's digital content available to worldwide users, under an open access policy.

"All UNAM online" is an institutional mandate that represents a significant challenge due to the University size and the cultural change that has to be promoted. To support UNAM fundamental tasks, programs and projects have been developed to get advantage of the benefits of Internet, to enhance the institution's worldwide impact and the major role it plays in Mexico's higher education and research. Several university entities and academic departments participate in the Program, and their members work hard to provide access to the University's vast collections, catalogs and more.

The principal aim of this paper is to provide an insight on the evolution of the "All UNAM Online" Program, the strategies that are involved in its execution, and its achievements, as a means towards reaching an institutional culture for open access both in research and teaching.
