ABSTRACT

Nature in Paper: Two Histories at the XVI Century

Alicia Escárcega Freixas

In this paper, there will be a review of two books written in the Nueva España at the XVI Century that, in a certain way, follow the classic model Natural History of Pliny the Old: the Historia general y natural de las Indias, by Gonzalo Fernández de Oviedo, and the Historia general de las cosas de la Nueva España, by Fray Bernardino de Sahagún. This descriptive genre will be exemplified with these two authors to emphasize the importance of this type of writing in the XVI Century and in the future development of the biology sciences.

Keywords: Nueva España, Biology, Natural History, description, literature.
