ABSTRACT

"The story is a gift that gives us the literature": interview with Agustín Monsreal

Martha Quintana Gómez

Agustín Monsreal was born in Merida, Yucatan, in 1941. He participated with Edmundo Valadés in the El Cuento, revista de imaginación magazine editorial board. Among his influences, we can find important writers such as Augusto Monterroso, Efrén Hernández and Juan Rulfo, besides Valadés himself, who said about this Yucatecan writer: “Between the storyteller writers born in the 40’s, Agustín Monsreal is one of the most gifted, a complete narrator, with great purpose and sober linguistic imagination”. Monsreal confesses himself as a naturally storyteller, even though he has incursion in poetry, but has never shown any interest in the novel writing.
