Curious Facts about Gazettes of Mexico: Science in the everyday World

This article analizes the importance that science had to Juan Ignacio Castorena Ursúa and Juan Francisco Sahagún de Arévalo's Gacetas de México, to see how this kind of knowledge got involved in the XVIII century novohispanic journalism. During this period, the ideas of the Illustration began to arrive to American shores, and influenced in a definitive way the scientific character of the first newspapers written in this continent. Additionaly, there are some disciplines reviewed, such as the astronomy, geography, medicine and navigation, to regard their function and how they got involved int he Gacetas' news.
