ABSTRACT

Global and bibliometric visibility for Mexican scientific journals through the SciELO-Mexico collection

Antonio Sánchez Pereyra

This paper exposes the benefits provided by the virtual library SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online) for the Iberoamerican journals as derived from its principal asset and most important strategic concept: its organization and functioning as a collaborative network of collections from 15 countries for over 15 years. This partnership principle enabled the founding of a pioneering project in the Open Access movement in the world and its creation as the only database with citation indicators produced in Latin America. Currently, SciELO is underway to expand its bibliometric potential by creating SciELO Citation Index on the Web of Science system. Also mention the participation and lags of SciELO-México in this collective path.
