Nanotechnology opens a promising horizon for addressing one of the most significant challenges of our time: access to clean and safe water. By manipulating materials on a tiny scale (millions of times smaller than a grain of sand), nanoparticles and nanomaterials are highly effective at removing contaminants, pathogens, and heavy metals from water. This article explores the origins and evolution of water treatment technologies up to the emergence of nanotechnology. While these achievements are crucial, it is essential to consider the challenges related to their safety, environmental impact, and regulation, to ensure its sustainable long-term use.
