The world of theater is often perceived as an enigma, generating curiosity about its academic training and the working conditions of its professionals. In Mexico, actors and actresses face a stigma that delegitimizes their work, considering it a hobby rather than a serious career. This perception has been fueled by a history that has romanticized and precarized artistic life, where passion is often confused with a lack of labor rights.
The acting profession can be divided into different groups based on their training, from prestigious universities to self-taught individuals. However, they all share the struggle against labor precariousness, leading actors and actresses to take on multiple jobs to survive. Through reflections on auditions and the search for economic stability, the need to revalue artistic work and reclaim rights that ensure a dignified future for those who choose this path is emphasized. In an environment where passion and talent are not enough to guarantee a livelihood, recognizing artists as workers is essential to transforming their reality and dignifying their labor.
