Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems, ENDS, e-cigarettes, health effectsAbstract
There has been an explosive growth of consumers of Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ends), among which electronic cigarettes are the most common prototype. In the beginning, its use was recommended as a way to quit smoking. Nevertheless, they are currently the means through which children and adolescents begin to become addicted to nicotine. Many adults who smoke tobacco also consume electronic cigarettes, creating what is known as dual smoking. What is worse is that electronic cigarettes are becoming the vehicle for the inhalation of Cannabis oils, fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamin E, multiple dyes, flavorings and essential oils, in addition to drugs such as fentanyl.
There is a significant number of clinical and epidemiological evidences of the damage that can be generated by ends: acute lung injury, throat inflammation, dry cough, viral infections. Also its long-term use increases the risk of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (copd) and myocardial infarctions. In addition to this, the third generation of ends has higher voltage batteries that are at greater risk of exploding, causing severe damage such as fractures, burns, and loss of phalanges.
