Avocado is a highly consumed fruit in Mexico, whose nutritional composition of monounsaturated fatty acids, vitamins, antioxidants and fiber have protective effects in people living with obesity. Various studies have shown that the constant consumption of avocado contributes to an increase in the number and diversity of beneficial microorganisms in the intestinal microbiota, which helps control high levels of fat in the blood or dyslipidemia, reducing total cholesterol levels and elevated triglycerides. This contributes to high levels of HDL cholesterol (known as “good cholesterol”) and low levels of LDL “bad cholesterol”); as well as to obtain controlled insulin and glucose markers. However, the protective effects that avocado provides in people living with obesity are only reflected when the consumption of this fruit is constant.
