This essay discusses cautionary tales, which are some of the first stories in children’s literature. Originally, they arise to impart values, prohibit and point out the possible consequences of transgressions. In this text we explore their evolution, how their characteristics and functions have changed, starting from warning of danger, to educating and entertaining, to making fun of themselves, with various characteristics, such as irony and nonsense.
