Sustainable behavior: an intergenerational approach
Keywords:
sustainable behavior, intergenerational, environmental actions, environmental practicesAbstract
Environmental problems affect the natural and social conditions in which we live; therefore, we must promote practices that lead us to take care of resources. The purpose of this article is to review the relationship between sustainable conduct –specifical actions (practices) towards caring for the environment–, with intergenerationality. This work will strengthen the empirical evidence of intergenerational relationships for the transfer of positive environmental practices.
The first part of the document addresses the issue of sustainable conduct, referred as the set of actions aimed at the protection of the planet’s natural and socio-cultural resources. Next, we discuss intergenerationality, defined as the exchange and correspondence between people of different age groups who are linked by a family or social bond. Furthermore, we address the theoretical approaches that facilitate the understanding of these relationship processes. Subsequently, we analyze research on environmental practices to locate them according to intergenerational perspective approaches. We found that environmental practices are developed under a sociological and historical sense as well as a sociocultural and pedagogical orientation.
