Parasites constitute an important part of biodiversity. The parasite term refers to a wide group of organisms with different phylogenetic origins. This contribution defines the concept of parasite from a biological perspective, emphasizing in those living as parasites of parasites, which are called hyperparasites. Additionally, we expose some examples of hyperparasitic plants inhabiting Mexico, which constitutes an interesting but few known sorts of parasites, currently studied by the authors.
