Health and food culture in Mexico

The food culture in Mexico has its origins in the pre-Hispanic era. After the Conquest a blending of food was originated that made the Mexican food one of the richest and most diverse cuisines in the world, being inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2010. This article makes a review of the food culture in Mexico and analyzes their influence on the health status of the population. It also proposes the reformulation of strategies and intervention models designed to address health problems resulting from an inadequate nourishment.
