The UNAM Open University and Distance Education System in the face of the pandemic: initial clues

Objective: To present the opinions, perceptions, and experiences that the Open University and Distance Education System faculty and students had during the pandemic.
Method: Faculty and students answered a survey with a probability sample design and statistically representative by area of knowledge.
Results: Differences are identified with respect to what faculty and students of this system answered in comparison with faculty and students of face-to-face education, in aspects such as conceptions about distance education and the incorporation of technologies in education. While similarities are observed in the perception that faculty had about the workload involved in teaching during the pandemic, as well as the type and frequency with which they implemented certain teaching strategies, and in the case of students the perception of their learning. It is noteworthy that from this system faculty reported having more previous experience working in different roles in online and distance education, while SUAyED students reported applying more frequently strategies such as researching class topics on their own and having counseling with their professors compared to face-to-face students’ system.
