Abstract

Abstract pursuant to the content of the amparo 217/14 of the Supreme Court Minister, Mr. Arturo Zaldivar, who mentioned among others, that marijuana produces the same respiratory problems as any other smoked substance and that it is less harmful than other substances such as opium, amphetamines and others. Indeed, alcohol consumption, tobacco consumption and other chronic diseases represent major health issues not comparable to the potential harm of marijuana. However, this is not a harmless drug. It has been scientifically proven that there is a significant relationship between alcohol and tobacco consumption, and subsequent consumption of cannabis. Bioethics and its unquestionable validity in analyzing emerging situations, disasters  or addictions, provide the proper context in which the plurality of the society may analyze and understand the discrepancies. There are people who tend to compare life in the United States and consumption of marijuana vis-à-vis life in Mexico , reflecting two completely different realities. The paradigm shift from the criminal sphere to public health is essential, however it is necessary to take a closer look to the term public health and the relevance of establishing a strategy for drug control in our country.
