This text contains the reflection of a distance education professor from UNAM about visibility of this learning modality, from the moment of the recent confinement caused by COVID-19 pandemic. For those who had been working in distance education, little changed with the confinement, but for the rest of the population, the pandemic meant adapting to an unknown, relegated modality, which aroused mistrust. Experiences and projections on the future of the distance modality are included, and areas of opportunity and successes are analyzed. This invites us to rethink important issues such as the information society, digital divide, higher education.
